DBP (Dirt Bike Promotions) caught up with Jason Reed at the final round of the Yamaha MX Cross Cup at Maitland where he is competiting in the Pro Lites Class. The Stadium Motocross event is great lead up for the Super X Championships.
DBP - So Jason you moved up to the senior ranks this year, how have you found the transition?
JR – Yeah it’s been a big learning curve, and I am pretty happy with how I have done, I finished up 7th in the U19’s in the Motocross Nationals. But the highlight this year would have to be the World Mini Bike Championship in Taupo New Zealand where I finished up 11th. The track was awesome there was this section in the track which had a 12 foot deep saw dust pit, I loved that track and would go back in a heart beat.
DBP – You’re working three days a week now and that leaves a couple of days for you to do training and go racing, how you liking that?
JR – I am working for Hunter Valley Steel and I love it, I really like having my own independence.
DBP – Well Jason we are family friends of you guys and a little birdy tells me you FINALLY passed your driver’s test, how many times did it take you to get?
JR – Laughs, well yes we won’t go there, but yeah I finally have my P’s and my own set of wheels, a Mercedes Vito Van.
DBP – On the serious side Jason, you have lived in the shadow of your very famous cousin Chad Reed, I am guilty of also referring to you to the media as his little cousin, how do you deal with that?
JR – I have made my own way in this sport and my name is Jason Reed, everything I achieve is by my own achievements, along with the support of my family.
DBP – What do you like about racing?
JR – The best part is the people you meet and greet along the way, you make life long friends, and that’s what I love the most about the sport, oh along with the adrenalin you get from racing.
DBP – What do you do when you’re not racing or training, I mean totally away from bikes?
JR – I do a lot of BMX riding and I am into wakeboarding and snowboarding.
DBP – While we are on the topic away from motor bikes, what’s your favourite movie, music and food?
JR – Oh that’s a hard one, my favourite food is Cabonara and my fav movie is Oceans 12 and I listen alot to the Hilltop Hoods.
DBP – Who are your idols?
JR – My biggest idol is my brother Todd, he is always so supportive to me and I really look up to him. My other idol would have to be Ryan Dungey, and I would like to one day meet him along with Jeremy McGrath.
DBP – Finally where do you think you will be in 10 years?
JR – Scratches his head, well I will be 27, wow, um I hope to be living overseas in either Europe or the US racing.
DBP – Thanks for your time Jase, and good luck with the Super X Championships.
