Bopping Victorious at Bathurst

A large crowd of spectators flocked today to the opening round of Dirt Bike Promotions (DBP) Stadium Motocross Series now in its tenth year, and racing did not disappoint with over 300 riders attacking the fast flowing motocross track which offered up for super competitive racing.

Lawson Bopping (Team Shift Motul Suzuki) was victorious in the Pro Lites Class today. Bopping who got a bad start in the final moto had to fight his way through a strong field of riders including John Prutti who lead the field for the first lap, but Bopping was able to hunt down both Prutti and Cameron Solomon after several laps to take the lead and secure his win convincingly.

“It was good to come out here today, I haven’t ridden for a while, and this is the first one for the year. The track was technical and a bit dusty, but it was pretty good I liked it,” said Bopping

Muswellbrook’s Nathan Brochtrup (Ficeda & Bikes and Bits) a veteran of stadium motocross outclassed the field, showing he still has the speed and tenacity to run with his younger competitors dominating all three moto’s.

30 year old Brochtrup believes success on the track is not necessarily limited by age, “I don’t really think age is a barrier it’s whether you still have the drive and motivation and your body is still functioning

“The last moto was a tough one, but I just kept it on two wheels and stayed in front.”

DBP Samantha Sargent said having the calibre of Bopping at the event lifts the profile, “It was great having him at the opening round of the series, especially after his success at Super X this year, he is a real favourite amongst the junior kids.

“It’s great to be able to bring this type of racing to the country towns, they really embrace us and our free kids tickets proved a huge success.”

Round two heads to Orange on 20th February with the final round to be held in Maitland in March.
