Christopher Lawson Hoping to Shine at the Orange SMXS |
|
Seventeen year old Christopher Lawson has recently stepped up the super competitive Clubman 16-19 years division and with some bad luck at round one of the Stadium Motocross Series (SMXS) held in Bathurst last month, will be hoping to capitalise in front of a home crowd in Orange on February 20th. Christopher of Lewis Ponds, has been riding bikes since he could walk, comes from a family of motor racing with his uncle Justin Dwyer a former talented Go-Kart racer and several cousins who also race motocross, proving racing is definitely in his blood. “I am looking forward to Orange which is in my own back yard and it will be good because all my family and friends will be able to come along and watch,” expressed Christopher. Riding a Yamaha YZ 250 four stroke this year as a Privateer, Christopher juggles his love of racing with a full-time job as an apprentice plumber working for Tanner Plumbing in Orange. Currently in 12th position in the Clubman 16-19 years, Christopher will be striving to place higher in the points tally. The Orange Stadium Motocross will offer spectators a chance to see the future stars in each highly-competitive class ranging from 50cc Nippers right through to the Pro Lites and Opens classes. Organiser Phil Sargent of Dirt Bike Promotions, says Bathurst and the Central West is loaded with talented motocross riders, “We really want to try and get a huge local contingency to take on the rest of the riders from across the state. “Due to the tough economy we are offering one FREE child admission to every paying adult. I have a family of my own and I know how expensive it is to take the whole family on an outing, so I hope this will just help a little and give families the chance to have a great day and evening enjoying the spectacular of Stadium Motocross. “The best part about our events is that the kids get a chance to race in front of a large crowd at a Supercross style event and it says a lot about the calibre of the racing and the talent of the competitors, when the crowd cheer just as hard for the junior riders as they do for the Pro’s. “Stadium Motocross is a similar layout to Supercross racing with a man made track with loads of Supercross style jumps formed from more than 12,000 tonnes of dirt inside the arena at Bathurst Showgrounds it lends for super close racing. Sargent said entries are now available and entries will be capped at 24 for each class so don’t miss out. Round Three the final round of the series will be held at Maitland Showground (NSW) on 13th March.
